HOW TO USE THIS SITE
Catholic Foundation Stones was produced as a booklet for use in Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Leeds in 2009. As a basic introduction to aspects of the Catholic faith, it has a wider application for anyone wanting to know something about the beliefs of the Catholic Church. It can be used with school staff, in parish catechesis, for preliminary catechist formation and as initial formation for those considering the Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS). To make the resource more easily avilable and accessible, the content of the 12 Sessions contained in Catholic Foundation Stones has been presented in this website.
Catholic Foundation Stones is structured around the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: the faith we profess (the Creed – a statement of what we believe); the faith we celebrate (the Sacraments); the faith we live (the moral life); the faith we pray (prayer and the spiritual life). The Catechsim and the Compendium are authoritative official sources of the faith and teaching of the Catholic Church.
An individual or group can follow the 12 Sessions of Catholic Foundation Stones over a set period, or dip into a particular Session where it may be relevant, reading the text and exploring the reference links to Scripture and the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. A text for each Session and a supporting Powerpoint presentation can be downloaded from the page at the beginning of each Session. Not every aspect and detail of the Catholic faith is covered in Catholic Foundation Stones. The material offered here is just a small beginning, a snapshot. There is so much more to discover and to take further. What is offered here is merely an appetiser from an immense and luxurious banquet! We would be very pleased to hear how you found the Sessions.
